Students in this training are taught the 5NP (5 Needle Protocol), also known as Acudetox or The NADA Protocol ~ The practice of applying fine gauge, sterilized, one-time use stainless steel needles at five designated ear points in each ear, where they remain for 20-45 minutes while the person relaxes quietly in a comfortable chair often in a group setting. The 5NP aids in addressing drug and alcohol detoxification, chronic pain, depression, anxiety, stress, trauma and addiction recovery. POCA is a member-run 501(c)(6) non-profit organization whose mission is to work cooperatively to increase accessibility to and availability of affordable group acupuncture treatments. Born and raised in the mountains of Southwest Virginia, Katie Clifton is a mountain mama who has a deep love of Appalachia. After owning and operating Queenpin Acupuncture for a decade, Katie transitioned to nonprofit work, founding Calm Clinic and Caravan—a mobile clinic providing free and reduced-cost acupuncture to medically underserved communities in southwest Virginia. Dedicated to making acupuncture more accessible, Katie has served on the Acupuncture Society of Virginia for two years and represented the organization in the American Society of Acupuncturists from 2022 - 2025.
